Studies for the Development of Interiority

Interiority is not confined to the human soul, though developing the capacities of heart-interiority are central to discovering the interiority of others, of the body, of the Earth, of the Cosmos. In the emerging New World, there is no longer an inner-outer division. The unity of being is given as qualities of interiority, of what lies within, of what we are all within and dimensions of - the Great Divine Being.

The studies of the School of Spiritual Psychology prepare and demonstrate the values and virtues and practicality of interior, symbolic life. The courses of study are not so much about learning new information as they are practices in the unlearning of the old mental ways, finding the pathways into new time and new space of the heart, and how to navigate therein.

When we come together, a community of the future forms. We, as leaders of these groups, bring an orientation and, even more, live within what we bring to others. Immersion in the groups gradually brings about the awakening of the body, a new consciousness, and a devoted, reverent presence to the Earth and her creatures. The new consciousness is a Time consciousness, one in which everything is alive and active and in motion. The old consciousness is one that has focused on space, and thus is characterized as static, fixed, dependent on surety, unable to sense flow, unable to feel what is coming to us, living in fear, caught by the past.

There is a background to this new way of living. Seeds of it are in C.G. Jung, from whom we are indebted for a sense of the symbolic. James Hillman furthered the depth dimension by showing the reality of the imaginal realms. Phenomenology provides the method of trusting, staying with, and understanding interior experience. Rudolf Steiner takes phenomenology to the regions of spiritual experience and being. Sri Aurobindo and The Mother heal the false division between spirit and matter and stop spiritual escapism, that desire to find permanence and ecstasy by abandoning the unfolding spirituality of Earth. Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet shows the way to the Earth community of the future that now impinges unrelentingly. We draw on these visionaries, but are not heavy on academic knowledge. The studies are a way into living what these individuals propose, not by following them, but by a living synthesis that is indebted to them.
